Opinions on Rio and location.

A group of guys(in our 50's) are booked at the Rio the end of April. What do you think about the Rio atmosphere and how much of a pain, if any, will it be coming and going to the others casinos?

What are positives and negatives to Rio?

Thanks in advance.

If you plan on spending a lot of time on the Strip then it will be a pain and Id suggest changing hotels.

I can only assume this will be your first trip to Las Vegas and if so you really need to stay on the Strip.

I would switch to the strip and probably something reasonable like a newly renovated room at the Flamingo right in the middle of all the action.

The rooms at Rio are much larger than normal, which will really matter if you are putting more than 2 in a room. They also have a fridge, which is a nice feature. The pool is really nice. The casino is the same CET crap that you will find in their Strip properties. They do have a shuttle to the Strip, as does Gold Coast next door.

IMO, the very best quality of Rio is that it is next door to Gold Coast. This gives you a place to go for much better gambling, and more reasonable dining.

Personally I would stay at Rio, over some of the economy options on the Strip. But I don't mind spending time off strip. If you want to spend most of your time on the Strip, that is where you should stay.

Service was kind of lacking on my last two stays, so I'm trying other properties now. The rooms are nice and the Keno lounge is great.

I'd echo what the others have said. I'd go for a room at Flamingo or Harrah's over Rio, especially for a first visit.

Thanks everyone. I'm stuck at Rio. I didn't make plans. We'll probably take shuttle and taxis.

Will try Gold Coast for blackjack. My fourth trip to Vegas.

if you like to hit the pools, the Rio has a nice pool set up. By the end of April, the whole complex should open. They have one of the better buffets though they no longer have a breakfast buffet. Gold Coast is decent for bj.

I stayed at the Rio during my last trip in July 2014 and very much enjoyed it. It didn't hurt that the room was comped either. The pool complex was nice and that was a big factor for us since it was well over 100 degrees during our stay. We didn't utilize the shuttle service since we always rent a car. Overall, nice place but there's something to be said about the action on the strip. Keeping in mind that I've been to Vegas too many times to count and have stayed everywhere from Caesars to Bills to Golden Nugget.

My last trip to Vegas in July 2014 I stayed at the Rio. I've been to Vegas too many times to count and stayed anywhere from Caesars to Bills Gambling Hall. The Rio worked well for us and it didn't hurt that it was comped. The pool area was nice (which was a big factor for us since it was 114 degrees when we were there!). Plus we always rent a car so we had easy transportation to the strip. I would stay again in a heartbeat but, on the other hand, there's something to be said about the action of the strip.

I stayed at the Rio twice last year and I love it there. The rooms are huge compared to a standard hotel room, and the fridge is nice. There are 2 shuttles leaving every 1/2 hour going to Bally's and Harrah's, and they run until 1 am. You've got Gold Coast next door and Palms across the street as well. I don't know why people disparage it. It's not the Ritz, but it's a nice mid level property.
