I had pretty good success at the $5 tables at the Boardwalk. However, I cannot recommend them as a place to stay.

When my wife and I were there last month we noticed a horrible smell in the hallway to the room. Now, this may have been wet paint as the sign implied, but I've never smelled paint like THAT!

The room we stayed in was not filthy/gross but it was not very far from being so. To be specific it was cleaned but the stains on the carpet and arm-chair were not reassuring in the least.

The only reason we stayed there in the first place was that we "won" a trip that was actually a timeshare promo. So, they put us up there.

I'd look at the Imperial Palace before I'd stay at the Boardwalk again.

If you really want low-limit tables I'd stick to Downtown. When we stayed at the Fitzgerald a few years ago it was more than pleasant. The room had been re-modeled and we had a wonderful view of Freemont Street.

"can I go wrong with Boardwalk"

Depends on your expectations and the price of the room. (See review below.)

Last time I stayed there was about 3 years ago. Room was clean and simple - not really much in the way of amenities. Didn't care much for the casino, though. Buffet is the absolute worst on the Strip.

For cheap, clean/comfortable and low roller, for some reason I keep going back to the Westward Ho......

For about the same price you can stay at Tropicana, Imperial Palace, Stardust, Orleans or Golden Nugget. Stay somewhere else and go there for the gaming if you feel that will be your lucky place.

Great move, if for no other reason than the Flamingo pool. And you can still walk to Boardwalk if that's where you want to gamble. You might have problems finding $2-$5 low limits at Flamingo, but you can go next door to Barbary Coast or up the street to O'sheas and Casino Royale for that kind of action.
