Looking for alternative to TheHotel -suggestions please

Vegas veterans - I need help planning the next trip for the wife and I. We have stayed at Mandalay Bay/TheHotel last 3 years. I wasnt thrilled with stay this last time (September), and am worried about changeover to Delano. We are planning a May trip. We are in our 40's and we like the excitement, but really appreciate a quiet place to shut it down when we finally call it a night. Any place comparable to TheHotel that is quiet for sleeping, but in the mix of good dining, gambling and shopping? Thanks in advance!

We stayed at the Four Seasons and really liked it. We liked MB and liked having the casino, etc. right downstairs but loved going back to our quiet retreat at night. And the bed was so comfortable--we actually bought the pillows when we got home.

Vdara, non-gaming hotel.

It shares a drive with Aria and has a convenient, covered walkway into the Bellagio. You can also pretty easily get into the Cosmo (though it takes a little more effort). The City Center tram also stops directly behind it, Crystals, and the Monte Carlo. That makes the location quite sweet, IMO.

The suites there are fantastic and priced really well for what you get. I had a wrap around corner suite that I stayed in for 5 days and it was awesome (and very inexpensive, IMO). It has a small deli on the ground floor and a small bar, very nice gym/spa... though I didn't check out the pool area.

The staff is friendly and it's quiet. Very quiet.

Unfortunately there is nothing on the Strip comparable to THEhotel. Palazzo, Wynn, Encore, Cosmopolitan, Aria have opened since THEhotel, and Caesars and Bellagio have built new towers. But none of them have a real suite as their standard room.

A real suite at any of the Strip hotels is an upgrade of 2-3 levels and always costs more than THEhotel, although most of them are also larger. It's one of my biggest Vegas disappointments, that no one has built even just one tower to compete with them.

So your choice is to pay more or settle for less.

The Cosmo has comperable rooms to THE Hotel, but the floor plan is more open. They only have one bathroom, as opposed to 1.5 but that little half bath at THEHotel isn't all that useful anyhow.

Plus, you get a balcony at the Cosmo, which is nice.

There are plenty of quiet areas at the Cosmo ... the lobby isn't as relaxing as THE Hotel is ... but you'll be very pleased with the property as a whole.

Have you looked at the Venetian? Not a true suite, but a much larger than average room with a separate sitting area.

I disagree with ktinca.

Vdara is to Aria precisely what theHotel is to Mandalay Bay. It's the non-gaming, all-suites tower of Aria.

There are a few differences. You do have to leave the Aria to get to the Vdara, but it's very close. Vdara is slightly more expensive, smaller for their small suite, but it's also newer, has a better location, and is more accessible to a better part of the strip.

So, there's a trade-off. But, Vdara also has its own amenities and pool. The one drawback is that other than the cafe, it doesn't have a restaurant.

I will agree with the rest of ktinca's assessment though. The other hotels have failed to develop a non-gaming all-suite tower.

I've stayed at both and much prefer Vdara now that I've stayed there. But, I certainly did like staying at THEhotel. The smaller suite at THEhotel is nicer than the smaller suite at Vdara, but upgrading to a corner suite at Vdara is fairly inexpensive.

Another vote for Cosmo. It is a lovely hotel. We had an one bedroom terrace. We liked the decor and layout. The Japanese soaking tub/fountain views is a bonus. It's worth the splurge (unless you find a lower rate, you can make a claim with Marriott and they will beat it by 25%)

Happy planning.

We stayed at Vdara in September and we liked it alot also but the pool is not great so keep that in mind if the pool will be a factor for your May trip. (The pool at the Four Seasons is fabulous.) We did, however, like the central location and the proximity to Aria/Bellagio/Cosmo. The hotel was quiet but not as quiet as Four Seasons.
