Cheapest and easiest way to see the Grand Canyon

Hi All,

We are looking for the best option to see the Grand Canyon on a budget !

We have read lots of reviews, some good , some bad about many tours, skywalk reviews not soo good etc , so anyone got any specific tour compaines to recomened?

We will have 1 day to allocate so a full day trip is needed, would like to see the great veiws, etc not too bothered about going down into the canyone by copter or similar..

There are some bus tours that seem to be 12 hours, but only give 30mins on the rim ??

We will have the option of keeping our hire car for an extra day after arriving in Vegas if driving ourself is the best option ??

Thanks folks :)

Renting a car and driving there yourself is the most economical way to go. It also gives you the greatest flexibility and the most time at the Canyon. Some tours add an extra hour on each end as they many many pick-up and drop off's along the Strip. Having a car gives you access to many more view points than a tour bus.

And you definately want to be driving to the National Park at the South Rim. Do not go to the West Rim, which is closer but a significantly inferior experience. (That's where the skywalk is located.)

Driving is your best option IMHO. You will be on your own schedule, not their schedule. With tours, you waste a lot of time picking other passengers up before the tour and then dropping them off at their hotels after the tour. You get to see what they want you to see, not what you want to see. If they are running late, they will cut the tour short. It will probably be a lot cheaper.

Leave very early and drive yourself. 5 hours there and 5 hours back. It is worth it.

Agree that driving yourself is the best bet both for flexibility and economy but if you feel you must take a tour, Grand Adventures is the company that consistently gets the best reviews.

Keep the rental car and drive to Grand Canyon National Park. It is a 5 hour drive but an easy drive. All major highway. There are no traffic issues once outside the Vegas metro area.

Entry fee is $25 per car.

Decided to go with the South Rim, myself for next week. Too many negative reviews to go to the West Rim. Main reason is that it's so expensive and the view isn't as good as the south rim.

South Rim is one of our national parks and there is a reason for that. The Canyon area is bigger and better. This to me makes it worth the extra 2.5 hours drive. Even going to spend the night a mile from the entrance to the park. Just making sure I can see all there is to see. May never get the chance to see it again and I want to make it the best I can on this trip.

Keep it unanimous. Rent a car and drive to the GCNP at the South Rim.

Nascar did you see how much snow AZ is getting? 40 is shut down right now. 22 inches of snow in some areas. Watch the weather for next week.
