Standard 1st time Vegas questions

Should we plan to wear dressier clothes to go to the shows in the evening or is it standard resort wear everywhere?

Next question..... Does Vegas have a particularly bad pickpocket /scam problem or will standard precautions and common sense be adequate?

You'll see people in all kinds of dress - some people dress to the nines, others are in shorts and tee shirts. Nightclubs and some of the finer restaurants do have a stricter dress code.

Common sense and standard precautions are really all that is necessary. Most pickpockets are crimes of opportunity.

For my times at shows, I dress in accordance with my plans for dinner. If the restaurant I'm eating at has a dress code, then I just dress to get in there and the show is no problem. None of the shows actually have a dress code though so dress however you feel comfortable.

Common sense and standard precautions are all it takes. As yourstarla pointed out, most pickpockets are crimes of opportunity. As for scams, you may have people approach you and try to sell things that appear to be of value or they'll just ask you for money with some hard luck story. Be firm when you say no and they'll go away and bug the next person.

Just be aware of your surroundings. If in a big crowd or watching the Sirens show at Treasure Island (a known pickpocket area) be vigilant.

People wear anything and everything to shows- from shorts/tees, jeans, business casual to formalwear. Some like to dress up a bit at night while others don't bother. However, some people (not me) do find the shows, restaurants and casinos cool because of the AC blasting so they do bring a light wrap with them.

Common sense and standard precautions will serve you well. Yes, there are pickpockets in Vegas, as with any large city. Be aware of your surroundings-especially where a crowd has gathered, such as the TI Siren show, the Bellagio fountains- anyplace where people are distracted.

No pickpockets that I have come across or heard of. But always use precaution.
