Vegas with 6 year old

Me and my husband are looking at a trip to Las Vegas with our 6 year old. We have both been to Las Vegas in the past. Where is the best place to stay/eat with kiddo. Whats the best way to go to grand canyon with 6 year old? (all day seems a little long for 6 year old) Any other suggestion on what to do in Las Vegas would be appreciated. Any tips on coupons, discounts etc...

I would recommend Orleans. Nice sized rooms, many family-friendly dining choices at reasonable prices, movie theatre, and a real kiddies pool. And for a 6 year old no Las Vegas attraction will be as much fun as Kids Tyme.

I guess the first question would be what brings you to LV for a family vacation over somewhere like Disney? Vegas it not really geared toward kids. It had a brief "family" destination moment in the late 90's, but family friendly attractions are becoming lesser and lesser. What are you expecting to get out of this trip? Plenty of people DO take their kids there, but it wouln't be my first choice for a family trip.

What time of year are you thinking of coming? As for Grand Canyon, you are looking at an overnight trip away from Las Vegas to really be able to enjoy it. A long extra trip for sure for the kid after flying to Vegas.

I was in Las Vegas with my five year old for four days / three nights when my husband had a seminar at the Bellagio. It was really too long a time with a young child, and there weren't that many kid friendly activities IMO. Probably my favorite thing to do with my little one was going to the Secret Garden at the Mirage (fun to see the animals and dolphins), just a really peaceful nice place. We did a day trip to Hoover Dam too that was pretty interesting. We rode the Gondola boats at the Ventian and they sang "This is the Night" from Lady and the Tramp which my son loved. Stay away from Circus Circus and Excalabur kid game areas (very run down) and the places gave me a bad vibe. I just wanted to get out of there. Much time was spent at the hotel swimming pool, The Bellagio was not the best setup for kids, but we managed.

By the way, though, the next time my husband had a seminar in Las Vegas with freebie accomodations, I opted to just stay home with DS rather than come along.

Thanks for the recommendations... We are looking at the June/July time frame. We have been wanting to go back to Vegas and had heard there were more things for kids to do now and thought it would be a nice little trip for us to take. Doesn't sound like that maybe true???? Would still like to hear from others if they have ever took a kid with them.

Not sure who you heard from that there were more things for kids. Yes there are things to do but everything thing that is there for kids can be found bigger and better in other places (zoos, arcades, etc).

You also won't be able to enjoy Vegas like you do without the child. You will get plenty of people who say that they brought their kids and had a wonderful time. I just don't see how wonderful it can be.

There is a sticky at the top of the forum with things to do. Only you can decide if it's worth it.

I guess it really depends on what you're looking to do. If it's total gambling and drinking, then no it's not the right place. But I grew up going to Vegas every spring break through my youth and loved it. Even when we have gone back it's more about just checking things out, the shopping and getting away from the cold. And lastly - despite all the posts - we're going next month and taking our new baby. We stay off-strip and it has the most flights with best pricing to escape -20 weather in the winter. So although there are lots of hardcore Vegas adult onlys on here - it can be done with a family.

Google Vegas with kids and you'll get lots of ideas. You just need to know what you're getting into.

I have no problem with kids in Vegas. Both mine spend plenty of time staying down there. When they were six all they wanted to do was swim, order food, and visit Shark Reef. Seeing a show like Love or Blue Man is also fun.

The best way to see Grand Canyon is to drive ans stay over night. It really is something that everyone should see. And it would give you a break from Vegas.

IMO the best place to stay on the Strip with kids is the Four Seasons. You get the great casino free, friendly Four Seasons and can use all that Mandalay Bay has to offer. If you can't afford the Four Seasons than look at Mandalay Bay. Rooms there are nice, just larger areas to walk.
