Driving & Skiing in December - Help Needed

We are planning to base ourselves in Las Vegas and drive to Lake Tahoe (not sure if we want North or South Tahoe). We want to stay for 3-4 nights and go skiing (2 adults & 2 children ages 8 & 13). We have looked at the Heavenly site but we're having trouble working everything out.

Will it be snowing late December? Is it safe to drive on the roads between Vegas & Lake Tahoe?

Any help on packages, resorts, hotels would be great.

If it's not snowing it could still be windy and icy on the road between Vegas and Tahoe. If it is snowing, the drive will be scary. I've done it in January. While the drive south was lovely and sunny the drive north was snowy & icey. So you could have a decent go of it or it could be treacherous.

Heavenly in SLT is a good resort but then there are many more resorts to choose from on the north side (more than 10). At the end of Deceber you really should be prepared for crowds since the Christmas holidays are quite popular.

Your kids might really like Northstar. It's easy to navigate around the village and the runs and terrain park are popular with the kids.
