u.p. tracks to omaha

omaha is 1700 ft lower in elevation than north platte. if a train car were pushed out of north platte at any given speed and let go could it coast to omaha. there is a steak supper bet on this.

Distance in miles approx. 290, so the drop would be 5.8620689.feet per mile.Which came first the chicken or the egg? I really very seriously doubt the train would coast from point a to point b. It wpould be lucky to make it to Maxwell..

No. While NP is lower, there are bumps and slight changes in elevation along the way. It's too far. It's not a straight downhill.
