Chico Hot Springs in June

We're thinking about visiting Chico Hot Springs at the end of June 2010. Any feedback in regards to the Resort would be greatly appreciated.

Weatherwise ... what is it like that time of the year up there (we're from Houston, TX)?

Bring a coat. While the days will be pleasant to slightly warm to you, evenings may feel quite chilly. Rain is always a possibility but it usually doesn't last long.

We stay at Chico fairly frequently. A favorite stop on our trips to/from Seattle to see the kids and grandson. The hot springs are very nice (odor free) and the pools quite large. End of June will be busy. The hot pool is covered so offers some protection from the sun - snag lounge chairs and move under there early. Cool weather might be a blessing as none of the accomodations are air conditioned but there are electric fans.

We have always stayed in the Fisherman Lodge rooms which are really just an old motel that was moved on site on the hill above the main lodge. Very basic but clean and comfortable. No phones or TV. We bring some DVD's to play on laptop. The cabins down on the main level look interesting but are not in our budget - as are the one up on the hill. We've tried to get rooms in main lodge with bathroom but those were all booked and my wife won't use a shared bathroom - but those rooms are best bargain.

For dining the Poolside Grille is OK, especially for lunch, but closes sort of early. The Dining Room is fantastic! Really surprising for the remote location and the staff is very attentive. Did have a minor problem once with a new waitress confusing the order but they were very eager to fix things. The food has always been excellent. The last visit we finally tried the breakfast buffet it found it to be a really good value between what they have and what they charge.

We plan to return in September on way home from Seattle and this time will try the horseback riding. The gardens and greenhouse (warmed in Winter by hot spring water) are interesting.

End of June should be warmed up. We've only been there in early October and mid-August. The October visit was fun sitting in the warm pool with snowflakes coming down. August was hot and sunny. I think June could go either way but the warm up from early June to end-June is dramatic. But the air is usually dry and cools off fast after sunset, even in August. But the cool clear nights reveal a spectacular starry sky. Could not believe how many sattelites I counted last time. Unfortunately full moon in June 2010 is the 26th.

One other piece feedback....book soon. Chico is almost always full and getting multiple nights in a row can be difficult. One reason we favor late-Sept. when tourist season is over.
