BBQ/Things to do near Country Club Plaza?

I'm coming in for a 5 day conference at the Marriott CCP and won't have a car. Looked at local rest list and seems mostly chains. Any possiblilty of "local" non-chain casual places (BBQ?) and cheap and GOOD breakfasts with 15-20 minute walk? I love to do "local eats". that you can't get elsewhere.

Need info in next two week please.

Boy, I cant really help you out with any breakfast places around the Plaza. There are some good Sunday Brunch places but I doubt you'll be here on a Sunday?

There are a lot of chain restaurants on the Plaza, but several local spots that I think you will like. The Classic Cup has the best breakfast on the Plaza- seven days a week and it is a local, independent restaurant. Brio also does a nice weekend brunch, but definitely a chain. Jack Stack BBQ is on the Plaza, and also a local favorite. Other non-chain casual spots you can walk to are Bo Lings and Blanc Burgers. If you want to take a short cab ride to the Westport area, you'll find a few more there as well. Have fun!

Just on the east of the Plaza is Winstead's.

Not BarBQue, but worth the trip (IMHO). A KC classic. They've had various results trying to grow into a chain, but the original is on the Plaza.
