Isla Ballesta and Park Reserve

Hi - we are arriving in either Paracas or Ica (haven't yet decided exactly where - any suggestions?) at about 6pm by bus would like to visit Isla Ballesta and the Park Reserve the next day. Is it easy to find a tour from one of those cities at night or can we just take a taxi early the next morning to the boat launch and pick up a tour there and then taxi to park reserve and get one there as well.

From Paracas, both those trips are easy. I don't know Ica.

There was this tour company www.zarcilloconnections.com/ right at the Cruz Del Sur bus stop in Paracas where you could sign up for the boat tour.

Kirby,

You need to stay in Paracas because that is where both of those tours depart from.

If you want to visit the desert oasis Huacachina, take the awesome dune buggy and sandboarding tour in Huacachina, or visit the wineries, then you can take a bus or taxi to Ica from Paracas.

As others say, you should stay in Paracas, because the tour to the island always departs early in the morning due to the weather condition. There is no tour departing after 9-10am. So, it is also a good idea to reserve a tour in advance. I don't think I saw the tour companies calling for walk-in customers without reservation at the harbour, at least in my memory.

I strongly recommend Paolas Tour.

I did a lot of research and concluded the price they offer is the most competitive. But if you speak only English, the price will be more than their advertised one but still cheaper than others. And you can be on the same boat as the other tour operators.

As for the Park Reserve, we took a private tour because we had a bus to catch and couldn't join the group tour. The island tour (group) was $20pp and Reserve tour (private) was $20pp *2 people =$80 total. We are just two people and reserved for English tour. If you take a group tour for Reserve, I am sure that it is cheaper. But please be aware that the price was for the last summer (low season).

Paola and a driver picked us at the hotel in the morning by a nice big car and Paola even walked to the boat and directed us which seats to take to have the best view. For the Reserve, the only driver escorted us. I should say that the Reserve was not so interesting and we rather wanted to enjoy the hotel facilities instead. But it was good to go anyway. Otherwise we would wonder what we were missing forever...

I used Zarcillo Connections, they were very good. You can book them at the Cruz del Sur station when you arrive the prior night.

You can also contact them ahead and ask them to hold places for you.

If you're looking for Islas Ballestas and the National Reserve, stay in Paracas.

Tours to Islas Ballestas usually depart early in the morning. But tours to the National Reserve also usually depart in the morning!! It's easy (and not expensive -- but shop around) to arrange a private tour for the afternoon, though.
