Many thanks for your answer.
This will be our first trip to Peru.We are very excited.
We want to make sure it is safe to travel at nigth.
I think it is fair to say it is always safer to travel by day than by night. Just the same as it is fair to say airtravel is safer than road travel.
Many visitors do that journey at night, just make sure you go with a good company, this is not the place you want to be saving money

I've been to Peru, several locations many, many times. It's not different from any major city in the U.S. Like any country, you will have the same risks associated with criminal activity. If you compare many cities in the U.S. that I've been and lived, I have have a higher probability of getting mugged in the U.S. that in Peru. Enjoy this AMAZING country, you won't regret it!!!!
Many thanks for the info and support.
Those bus companies mentioned are fine, however travelling by night may not be safe. There is a Cruz del Sur bus departing from Ica approx 10 AM (From Nasca at 13:45 PM) so you will need to travel from Paracas to Ica then catch the bus there. I think you can book Cruz del Sur thru their website. This bus travels during the afternoon and reaches Arequipa almost at midnight.
January is summer in Peru in the coast (Paracas) temperature may be up to 30 C in the highlands is rainy season but not as cold as it is in August.
