Does the Horseshoe casino have simulcasting races? I know they do here in Iowa, but wasn't sure about there. If not, do any of the casinos?
You're so welcome. While we don't frequent the dog track, we do enjoy visiting there once in a while. They have gaming as well, but its all computer stuff; no actual dealers. They have a players card like the casinos. According to the Memphis paper, since the MS River floods last year, business has continued to drop in Tunica (lots of layoffs recently), while business is booming at the track.
I love playing the horses/dogs and much prefer that to casinos. Your money lasts much longer if you're not a big gambler!
You're so welcome.
Its actually in West Memphis, AR, maybe 15 minutes from downtown Memphis. There are numerous chain hotels in West Memphis, but keep in mind if you book one that the town itself is a major pass through for trucks. There's tons of truck traffic, truck stops, etc. There is no hotel at the track.
Are you planning to spend any nights in Memphis? If so, you could go over to the track then if it works out. Check their race schedule. Some days they do day racing only, some nights only, day and night on Saturdays and some simulcast only. The casino portion is open every day, but I don't know if they have limited hours. I would suggest you email them to ask that if you plan to play in the casino area..
If you're only staying in Tunica, then it would add about 15 minutes each way for the drive to and from Memphis.
Thanks Deb - Our plan is to stay at the Horseshoe in Tunica then drive into Memphis, TN to see Graceland, etc. We were just looking for things to do during the day so that is why I was asking. We like gambling, but mostly at night. I am thinking we could drive to Memphis, AR a couple of days and do the dog races and then go to Memphis, TN a few days and check it out. We have never been south, so thought it would be a nice trip and not so far for my husband to drive from Iowa.
You're so welcome. Check out the Memphis forum, things to do list, etc. for ideas. The Tunica casinos are only about 45 minutes to an hour from downtown Memphis.
