Just got back from a roadtrip to Tunica. Had a great time! I can't believe there was a flood there a couple months ago. Everything looked clean, like nothing ever happened!
Arrived at 3pm at Sam's Town on Sunday. Check in was easy and the room was MUCH nicer than I thought it would be! For some reason, I thought Sam's Town rooms might be older and not updated. How wrong I was! Flat screen TV, new furniture and big comfortable bed. Only one thing I noticed while staying at Sam's Town: it caters more to families with kids. There were a lot of kids running up and down the halls and I heard babies crying while passing by some of the rooms on my floor. Not a big deal so much (not Sam's Town fault).
Overall. Sam's Town was a good stay!
After check out at Sam's Town, I stopped in the buffet for breakfast. It was terrible! Most of the food was cold, waffles were mushy, and there was a very small selection of goodies. My waitress seemed indifferent and was "just ok". Maybe I hit it on a bad day?
I did some gambling at Sam's Town. It's a small casino with mostly all slots. Very few table games but they did have keno so I stopped in and checked that out (never played keno before). They have a new game "20 Spot". You pick or have the computer pick 20 numbers out of 80. If NONE of your numbers come up, you win $750! However, 5 of my numbers came up, which meant I win nothing. LOL. Oh, well.
Then headed to Harrahs Casino. I had a free slot play coupon ($40). I used it in the "Green Machine" (it's the big slot machine right outside the center bar area). I turned that $40 into $60 and cashed out. Good so far. :-)
Harrahs comped me a suite in the Casino Tower so I checked in. Wow! Very nice! The room was twice as big as my room at Sam's Town and it included a microwave and fridge in the room (great for leftovers). Real, sweet room!
Also, I noticed Harrah's hotel room was much quieter than Sam's Town. No kids at all staying in the Casino Tower.
The Casino Tower has a very small pool, so I decided to drive across the street and use the pool at the Veranda Tower. Wow! Great Vegas-like pool and sundeck. They also have a hot tub with towel service. They give you a wristband when you arrive at the pool so you can come and go as you please (if you need to leave and go back to your room for a while. etc).
While in Tunica, I stopped in Gold Strike and Horseshoe and gambled there. Both casinos were hopping! IGold Strike has a large casino floor. I played some table games there and I didn't like the dealers at Gold Strike. Mostly grumpy or just acted like a machine. No personality.
However, Horseshoe was much better. Played blackjack and baccarat. Very friendly dealers and pit bosses. Got a free buffet comped while playing. I was the BEST buffet hands down in Tunica (I've eaten at Gold Strike, Tunica Roadhouse, Harrah's, Hollywood, and Sam's Town). Horseshoe's buffet is the best, no contest. Good quality foods, great selection, friendly cashier/server and no long lines.
I left Tunica happy (and full). :-)
