from Italy...

Hello

This summer we are visiting the South. We need to spend an overnight in Jakson. I looked at Fairfield Inn at exit 48 in Pearl, is it still a good choice , safe ?

thanks

The Fairfield is fine. I would move on to the Hilton Garden Inn in front of Trustmark Park and get away from Exit 48 intersection traffic. There's a few nice places to dine in that area. There's also a Holiday Inn Express and Hampton Inn. The Bass Pro Shops in front of Trustmark Park is a fun place to shop. Enjoy your trip.

Where are you headed when you leave Jackson. You should visit the Delta home of the blues and BBQ.

Vicksburg and then Natchez. In recent years we visited other regions of the US: the Soutwest and New England.American people is very friendly and we know southern people will be warm and friendly as well, but we are a little worried about the safety in some big city.

Thanks for the link

Where will you be before you get to Jackson. Skip Jackson and visit Clarksdale, Vicksburg, Natchez and spend a few days in New Orleans. Have a great trip.

Skip Jackson. Stay in VB. Head N to the Delta home of the Blues. Spend a night or two in Memphis.

Go to Saw's in BH for good BBQ or Ms. Myra's. Enjoy your trip.

If your schedule is such that you need to stay in Jackson, the exit 48 (Pearl) IS "safe", good neighborhood, convenient options for food & hotel, etc., but I would agree with Axle that you don't necessarily want to spend time there. It's just that there is nothing unique about the area that is different from chain hotels & restaurants all over the US. Only exception would be if you are interested in minor league baseball & go to a game ( stadium is right there, Atlanta Braves affiliated).

Vicksburg is only another 40 miles, so if you like you could go on and stay there. If your trip includes an overnight in Vicksburg, it IS one less time to unpack.

Also, that last reply is confusing...those restaurants are here in Birmingham, are they not? (but i would beg to differ on Miss Myra's...)

Have a good trip,

Miller
