A day in Gulfport

We are going to New Orelans and want to know about a day drive to Gulfport. Not sure if we need to stay overnight. We are not interested in casinos just seeing the gulf coast. Any other area we should consider.

Personally, I would plan on spending a night on the Coast.

I would include a drive along Hwy 90 from Bay St. Louis, through Pass Christian, Gulfport to Biloxi. Then, a swing to Ocean Springs, MS, and perhaps a return trip to NOLA via I-10.

I feel that there is more than enough to do 1.5 days, and I grew up there. There is much more to see, than casinos, and we are not fans either.

You might want to do lunch in/around Pass Christian, or maybe Gulfport, then dinner in Biloxi, at Mary Mahoney's.

Travel safely, and enjoy.

Good ideas and we like the old town area of Ocean Springs. Also if like BBQ then don't miss the Shed BBQ in Ocean Springs. There is a paved walkway all along the gulf coast along US Hwy 90.

PeacheBelle,

Thanks for mention of The Shed - I had not thought of it.

Shaggy's in Pass Christian is fun for lunch - there's a lot of great little places in the small towns, but I recommend Shaggy's as it's right on the harbor with the oyster/shrimp boats.

The MS Gulf Coast is a very chill place -- (especially after New Orleans!) I wouldn't say there's tons of things you "must do", best to just chill out and take it in.

Do check out the carvings of the Katrina trees along Hwy 90. The bridges at Bay St Louis and Ocean Springs both have nice walking lanes, or walk on the beach, or stroll down one of the town fishing piers (Long Beach or Biloxi) -- there's tons of places to pull over and park for free.

Be sure to check out the visitor's center at the lighthouse in Biloxi on Highway 90. This is a beautiful place to relax and just look out over the gulf. There's also a wealth of information and exhibits and the price is FREE!
