Biloxi or Shreveport?

I am planning a trip for my husband's 51st B-day towards the end of Sept. Which one is the best as far as casinos and sight seeing. We've been to New Orleans, Tunica, Hollywood, FL and Las Vegas. We like to play a little Blackjack and the slots, and love horse racing when it is available live. We like to experience new restaurants, boat and trolley tours, interesting shops and antiques. All comments appreciated ............Carolina girl

I cannot speak for Shreveport, never having been there.

Biloxi has 11 casinos. They are close to each other and are within a 5 minute drive, or you can take the casino shuttle to all of them. The newest is the Golden Nugget which is pretty spectacular and is on the same street (Beach Blvd.) as Harrahs, Hard Rock and the beautiful Beau Rivage. Also on Beach Blvd. you will find the lovely Biloxi Schooner which has daytime trips and sunset trips. There are many excellent restaurants serving true southern cuisine as well as unsurpassed seafood restaurants. For shopping I recommend charming Ocean Springs with lots of boutiques on their Main Street. It is just a few minutes drive over the bridge from the Golden Nugget. For antiques, Bay St. Louis is probably the place to go. I highly recommend going to the Visitors Center, again, on Beach Blvd. It is located across the street from the lighthouse. Be sure to see the movie on the second floor, admission is free.

bibababy,

I was off searching to find something on the casinos in Shreveport, to add to Claudia's response, but not having much luck. However, in your Shreveport thread, Placebets sort of told me what I suspected - Shreveport is not that great. Last time I was through there, there were no casinos, and the only gambling was basically in roadhouses in Bossier City. Things have changed, but apparently not that much - and Placebets knows his casinos.

To add to Claudia's post, there is a largish (by Gulf Coast standards) shopping center near the Biloxi/Gulfport line - The Edgewater Mall: http://www.edgewatermall.com/

In Gulfport, basically 13 miles from Biloxi, there is an outlet mall: www.premiumoutlets.com/outlets/outlet.asp…

Each of those will require an auto.

Also, I second the suggestion to stop by the Biloxi Visitor's Center. We dropped by just to pick up a quick map (post Hurricane Katrina), and did not really plan to stay, as I grew up there. However, the folk were so much fun, so friendly, and possessive of so much knowledge, that even I did not have, we spent about 2 hours there. I cannot be more highly complementary, and they exceeded my expectations by a great deal.

Enjoy,

Hunt

We normally do, as well, however the one in Biloxi impressed us greatly. Not sure that we have ever encountered one better - and to impress me, once a native, I think speaks volumes for their knowledge and service.

Enjoy,

Hunt
