Gulfport area help needed

We're looking at 3 or 4 days being in Gulfport. Will be spending it with our son and his GF (soon to be fiance) before he heads to Baghdad. Now, we're looking for someplace nice, on a nice sandy beach, close enough to the action of town without being too close to all the action of town, can be a hotel or condo or ???, will have 5 people so will need 3 bedrooms or 2 connecting hotel rooms, a place where our son can arrange a romantic dinner on the beach to propose to our future daughter-in-law in a very romantic setting, we saw some places to stay down there in our research and they all sound so nice, we have time before we head down there so thought we'd ask here for opinions on where to stay and go and so on. Thanks everyone. Appreciate the help

Glad you're coming to visit! I'm sure you know there's little in the way of hotels left since Katrina. There's always the casino hotels.

Unfortunately, nothing is RIGHT on the beach but across the

highway from the beach. Most homes and B&Bs have not rebuilt

along the beach.

I don't believe there are any open restaurants on the beach but I

can think of a few nice, romantic ones to celebrate. Emeril's at

the Island View casino in Gulfport opened a short while ago. There's also a new Italian place - Salute - in Gulfport, which I hear is good also. Another one, long time favorite in the area, which

was quickly rebuilt after the storm, is Vrazel's, right next to the Island View (formerly Grand) casino in Gulfport.

Have you looked at vrbo.com for places to stay? Good luck!
