Planning for summer

As I recall summers of the 70's/early 80's and our annual summer trip to Biloxi, I am contemplating taking the family to the Biloxi/Gulfport area this summer. Yes, I know the summers are unbearably hot and humid!

Can someone give me a general update as to its suitability for a "family" vacation? What are some of the most popular attractions? Best hotels for families? Restaurants?

I'd appreciate any "tips"...

Thanks much!

If you have not been to the Biloxi/Gulfport area since the 80's, you will be quite surprised in the changes. Casinos bring in the tourists now. Area is still rebuilding and recovering from Katrina although it has made quite a bit of progress. Not sure about the beaches, if open or not. Seems like last Summer, they were still closed because of debris in the water. Much better "family" vacation spot would be Gulf Shores/Orange Beach. Beautiful beaches, many Gulf front properties available, zoo, water parks, great seafood restaurants.

Most of the beaches are closed and the rebuilding is slower than slow, not much there if your not into gambling.I was shocked to say the least of the condition,Looks like littles been done at this rate it will take 20 years. This is the united states one of the richest countries in the world this should not be like this, someones to blame whomever clean it up and get going.Cemetary with open graves{what the heck is that} along 90 right next to the beach, signs hanging down, wrecked buildings, this after 2 years what a travesty.
