Thanks to Cascade Vacation Rentals

Last week we had reserved a cabin north of Lutsen for a week through Cascade Vacation Rentals. We have usually stayed at Bluefin Bay, but wanted to try something different this year. The day we got up there it was rainy and windy, and then got worse. When we woke up after our first night there, power was out. That not only meant no lights, heat or coffee (that's serious), but also no water (think no toilet, shower, drinking water). The power company said the power should be back on in a few hours, so we drove up to Grand Marais for some food and to use public bathrooms. By then the wind was up to 50 mph and trees were falling along the highway like matchsticks. We drove back to the cabin after lunch and found the power still out. We barely got back to the cabin as trees had fallen on the dirt road it is on. The power company then said things were much worse and they couldn't even promise that the power would be back on by the next day. With the cabin temp down to 60 degrees, and needing to shower and use the bathroom, we decided to go back home to Minneapolis.

Even though we had pre-paid for the cabin for the full week, Cascade Vacation Rentals understood our problems and refunded the remaining 6 days of our rental. That was very generous and we will definately use them for future trips to the North Shore.

Wow, you really had the worst of the worst... unless you're a fan of large waves on Lake Superior. So sorry you were so inconvenienced. But judging from the downed trees I saw, you're lucky to have your car, much less your lives!

Thanks for the information on Cascade, good to know they're an ethical company. The North Shore is a beautiful area, but the fall weather is often chancy. I don't think I've ever enjoyed a perfect fall weekend up there weather-wise :0)
