Spending our 1st wedding anniversary in Duluth

My husband and I recently moved to MN and have decided to celebrate our 1st wedding anniversary in Duluth in mid-July. Any tips on what we should see or do? Is there a dinner cruise available? We enjoy wineries, breweries, relaxation, trying different restaurants, and live music.

There are dinner cruises available; the schedule and ticketing is at www.vistafleet.com. On weekends there's a pretty good variety of live music and other entertainment: www.twinportsnightlife.com is a good resource for that.

For an anniversary dinner, I'd highly recommend Nokomis, which is a few miles north of Duluth. A couple of other restaurants which have been featured recently on the Food Network are the Duluth Grille (family-style dining), and the Anchor Bar in Superior (a dive bar featuring waitstaff with an attitude, and the best burgers and fries in the area).

Three microbreweries are in the area: The Brewhouse in the Fitger's complex (6th Ave. E and Superior St.), Carmody's Pub (two blocks west of Fitgers; brews a small selection of beers in the basement), and The Thirsty Pagan brewery in Superior. Not much as far as wineries go, unless you travel to Iron River, WI (about 30 min. east of Duluth), where there is a winery specializing in mead.

Here's a guide to Duluth that includes tips on what to do and where to eat: midwestweekends.com/plan_a_trip/touring/lake…

If you're going in mid-July, be sure to make reservations ASAP if you haven't already, especially if it's the weekend of July 15-17, when there will be two big festivals.
