Suggestions for a canoe trip

My husband and I are visiting Traverse City next week and enjoy canoeing. Any suggestions on where we could take a canoe trip? We would need a one stop shop where we could rent one. Thanks!

check out the crystal river in glen arbor... there should be some outfitters in town... also, there are outfitters along the platte river, south of empire... both rivers are day trips....

Check out Riverside Canoe Trips in Honor Mi. on the Platte river. They've been in bussiness for at least 35yrs. Nice folks & will have everything you need.

Those are both good suggestions, but you might want to know there are trips you can do from much closer to TC. Here is a good site:

Here is a good all-around site that includes the above, plus the previously mentioned Platte and Crystal River trips.

Our favorite & the closest to Traverse City is the Boardman River. You can rent canoes at Ranch Rudolf, a family owned lodge, campground & outfitter. ranchrudolf.com/activities/…

We've always had good service from them & they are located only 15 miles from downtown TC.

The Boardman is a state designated natural & scenic river and runs all the way to & through Traverse City & empties into Grand Traverse Bay's west arm.

Sorry, I forgot to mention, rentals at "The River" (outfitter at Clinch Park mentioned by playa) only cover the downtown portion of the Boardman, The Ranch is 20 miles up-river on the natural & scenic section where it is much prettier & quieter. Pretty sure the Ranch has better prices, too.

Yes, that's a good point. But mine was to give them an "in town" option. The RR website you listed is included in the very good general purpose one I gave...as well as all the others. Hopefully they can find something suitable among all the choices, or come back and ask more specific questions...

The rivers mentioned above are smaller, twisty rivers that tend to be sandy bottomed - if you are looking for a larger, more varied river (deadfalls, high banks, deep holes, rocks, sand) that winds through some pristine northern forest check out the Manistee River out of the Fife Lake/Kalkaska area (about 20 min SE of TC). There is a place called Smithville Landing that will rent you your canoe/kayak and then drop you off 2, 4, or 6 hours up river. You'll see lots of wildlife.
