Traverse City Honeymoon

We are a mid-20s couple trying to plan our honeymoon in Traverse City. We are originally from the detroit area, but moved to Denver. We are having our wedding in Grosse Pointe and want to have a short (2-night) honeymoon in Traverse City. Wondering if anyone recommends any hotels or special activities. I know we want to go on a wine tasting tour...not sure what else.

To get to specifics of your post, for special activities in this area, there are more than a few...but it might help us if you said what time of year this will happen...

For hotels, why not have a look right here on T-A, esp in the "romantic hotels" category.

I would stay at the Wellington Inn which is within walking distance of downtown TC. Beautiful place. www.wellingtoninn.com

Yes to wine tours and also a drive out to Lake Michigan for some hiking and exploring.

I would head over to the Village at Grand Traverse Commons on the grounds of the old state hospital which is a collection of "unique and eclectic shops and restaurants". Pretty cool. Eat at Trattoria Stella www.stellatc.com

Head downtown and catch a movie at the renovated and historic State Theatre. After walking around downtown, stop in at Mackinaw Brewing Co. for a local brew and appetizer. Fun place.

Great suggestions northernite!

We stayed at The Bayshore in one of their suites for our honeymoon. Still walkable to downtown albeit not as close as the Wellington.

A special meal at The Cook's House would be great too. Another superb before or after movie stop is Red Ginger.

So much to do in the area, but winter suggestions (moonlight snow shoe hike) wouldn't work if it is a summer wedding :)

Try Chateau Chantel... Which is ok, but a B&N at a winery... So it might be right up your ally... It go a little further north and stay at a Biyne resort or Stafords in Petoskey!

What I would suggest really depends on when you are getting married...but as far as nice places to stay for a honeymoon I'd suggest The Tamarack Lodge, The Cherry Tree Inn and Suites or the Grand Traverse Resort and Hotel. The resort is actually in Acme (a little bit out of town for the wineries/downtown Traverse City) but the property is huge and beautiful with a ton of amenities and located close to Turtle Creek Casino if you're into that (great buffet there, BTW). If you are looking to stay IN town I'd say the ParkPlace Hotel...fair warning though the hotel itself is "historic" but nice none the less.

Places I'd stay away from: Bayshore Resort ("Victorian" style hotel that frankly smells odd and the decor is ghastly) and The Holiday Inn West Bay (<-loud dance club, poor service).

Also, there are many B&Bs located up the peninsulas which all seem to get great reviews so certainly check those out!

we have been staying at Black Star Farms for our anniversary for the last 10 years and I would recommend it. It's a winery as well and you get a more personal tasting included with your stay and it's close to many other wineries on Leelanau peninsula.

There are various size rooms two of which have very nice fireplaces and are spacious. Breakfast in the morning is always perfect IMO and some weekends they offer dinner at the inn as well in which a chef i son premise to cook your meal...

Many other places listed above are good as well, enjoy!
