I think Old Harbor Inn is in transition. I haven't stayed there, but I can offer these obsevations. It used to have a good reputation, I even remember seeing Mike Singetary, famous linebacker of the Chicago Bears, there years ago. It seems to have a reputation of being run down now. From the outside the building seems physically run down. With that said, It appears they have now painted at least the river side of the buildings. There is also a large "For Sale" sign on the river side of the building. This is just my impression and subjective, but to me it seems the buildings need remodeling and the current owner would rather sell.

This hotel has a great location in South Haven, right on the river at the end of Center St. downtown. Easy access to restaurants, shops, coffee shop in the building, a block from the riverwalk park leading to the South Beach and pier. Many rooms over look the river. I'm not sure I would stay there. Are you looking at anything else?

I stay there frequently especially in the off season when the rates dip to what its almost worth because the location can't be beat. As rono says it was lovely in the day....had a bellman, turn down service, and was well run when i first discovered it....geez i think that was about 10 yrs ago....then it was purchased by it's current owner and downhill it went fast....now its been cooped with several of the units individually owned and poorly managed by people who really give the worst service on the planet.

So why put up with it? The location is great right in town, you can walk around town as well as to the beach or lakefront, and the little rooms out over the shop area can be hit or miss but if you find a good one stick with it. It also has a small pool & hot tub if you're into that type of thing. Read all the reviews carefully before making your choice to stay there.

any more questions just ask, i'm pretty familiar with it.

If you like the location and are willing to stay a week (minimum), rent a condo at Watertowne. They are right across the street from Old Harbor, brand new, two bedrooms/two baths and most rent for about $200/night during the summer which is pretty close to what Old Harbor is. Watertowne also has an outdoor pool (Harbor Inn's is indoors) and underground parking (you park on the street if you stay at Old Harbor).

Quite the deal!
