New hotel on Mackinac Island

In the paper today... A new hotel is under construction on Main Street and should open in May. "Bicycle Street Inn & Suites". Info on regular rates and reservations is to be announced.

Sounds like it's worth checking out.

Looks like it might be a great place to stay! Love the number of balconies that will be available and a continental breakfast included. Thanks for alerting us to this new hotel. Did you go to the Island this Fall? I think you said you were...!

Didn't get to the Island this fall due to working too much, but plan on this spring or early summer. Maybe the Bicycle Street Inn...

The construction has been going on for over a year. It was controversial because of the historic building which was torn down to create the space.

Interesting. I'm trying to picture exactly what was torn down and in what space it is. Looks like down from Main Street Suites?

The 1889 McNally Cottage.

Here is a photo of it and article about efforts to keep something like that from happening again: …interlochen.org/ipr-news-features/episode/h…

Whatever happened to the bones they found on this site? There was a delay in construction because of that.

I remember that cottage-thanks for the link, Light. However, I still cannot place where on Main St is was/is. Yes, sad about the tear down. I want to know about the bones, too....

Two buildings south of the Huanted Theatre.

The Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians was reburrying the bones at an undisclosed Mackinac Island location in a mound shaped like a turtle.

FYI...Ira Green, the owner, is not only building the Bicycle Street Inn where McNally Cottage stood, he's also going to build the Bicycle Inn on the waterfront lot directly across the street where his bicycle rental shop now stands.

Also of note, the Lilac Tree Suites and Spa is expanding and adding a pool to the top floor.

The Bicycle Inn and Lilac Tree expansion should be completed for the 2014 season.

Across the street from the Lilac Tree is Mr. B's Ice Cream Stand. It's coming down and a restaurant (with apartments above) is going to be built on that site.

Lastly, the old Grand Hotel Stables was demolished a few weeks ago, though it was in pretty poor condition anyway. The beautiful new Grand Hotel stables at Surrey Hill is worth a visit.
