Best place to stay within walking distance is MGM Grand.

caseyel, what do you mean by best? MGM Grand is a very nice, upscale hotel, but it's location is to me a bit odd. Of course it's fine if you're just going for their casino and restaurants on premises but it's not so easily walkable to other restaurants or even to a People Mover station.

I'd trade luxury for location if a Tiger game were my reason for staying in Detroit. The Westin Book Cadillac is very nice too, has great restaurants in Roast and 24 Grille, is sometimes available through Hotwire, and I think it's just easier to get around from.

As noted in the other thread, Hilton Garden Inn and Greektown Casino Hotel are closest to Comerica Park, and Ferry Street Inn will shuttle guests to/from anywhere in the downtown area including the stadium.

I think the 234 Winder Inn is the absolute closest lodging to Comerica Park and is certainly very easily walkable, but I haven't heard of anyone staying there recently so I wonder whether they're still operating as an inn. I'll try to find out.

I highly recommend Atheneum Hotel in Greektown, but the Doubletree Fort Shelby also nice. Both easy walking distance. Great staffs at both hotels, Atheneum more in the middle of things.
