There are numerous waterfalls in this area, though I will let a UP expert or local help you with this!

Father Baraga Shrine/Memorial is somewhat interesting. Nice place to have a picnic. Nice little gift shop. Not sure they are open past Labor Day however.

You could certainly drive over to the Porcupine Mountains, Lake of the Clouds in particular.

We stayed at a WONDERFUL resort in Shanee this last spring:

It's owned by a retired Dr and wife. The cabin was top rate! It's about a 13 mile drive north of L'anse but for us it was perfect.

You should try the Sweet Rolls at the Hilltop motel/restaurant in L'anse. The restaurant is just East of town on top of a hill. There big and good -

Aside from the obvious (casino in Baraga) he may find much more activity in Houghton, which is about 25 miles north. Houghton is a college town (Michigan Tech University) with a lot more activity than L'anse/Baraga. Seaman mineral museum on campus might be a nice visit. There are the usual college sports activities and some cultural events. Many historic places to see and visit throughout the area.

Continuing to travel north to Copper Harbor (the tip of Michigan) is very scenic at this time of year.

For dining in that direction I recommend the Ambassador in Houghton.

I second the sweet rolls @ Hilltop in L'anse!!! They are to die for! Not difficult to locate as main highway into town runs right past their front door.

Casino in Baraga is decent. Was not impressed with the restaurant there.

The nice slow pace of the area and the abundance of nature make this a great place to just kick back and relax.

I third Hilltop's sweet rolls... big enough to share and they are delicious (especially warm). I also love their dinner rolls.

There is the Bishop Baraga Shrine you could check out. Honestly, it is not all that exciting, but it is something worth checking out since you will be up there anyway.

If you need the feel of a bigger city, Marquette is your best bet. It has all your typical chain stores and restaurants, plus an older downtown area with a handful of unique shops and restaurants.

Lake Superior shoreline is wonderful. Maybe go on an agate hunt!

Enjoy!!
