Jerk Cafe/ Jamaican food in Cape Cod

We had lunch at the Jerk Cafe in S. Yarmouth today. Across from the Riverway Lobster House, this hole in the wall located in a less than pretty strip store row offers delicious West Indian style cuisine. Today we sampled curry chicken and jerk chicken. Both were served with lovely rice and beans and fresh veggies including butter beans, cabbage and carrots. The owner Chef Shrimpy is a fun loving character with a personality the shines and food that warms the heart and fills the stomach. He has oxtail, fish, shrimp and other creative dishes.

Fussy, Chef Shrimpy gave us a to go container with jerk sauce so we could spice it up ourselves. The jerk chicken was so delicious. One to go order could have easily fed two of us. It was 17.00 for two dinners to go.

Thanks for the recommendation. I haven't been here yet, I'll make an effort to try it out. I love cheap and good and different!

Hi Naomi: Did you eat here when you last visited? I think it sounds fantastic.

Yep, hubby & I ate there over Columbus Day wknd.

Chef Shrimpy is a super-nice guy. Having just visited Jamaica back in July it was great to share stories w/ Shrimpy.

Because I ended up being sick that weekend with a nasty viral infection (killed 3 hrs at the walk-in clinic over by Long Pond), and my throat was killing me, I tried some of Shrimpy's soup. Delish!

Hubby and I both ordered the jerk chicken. Tasty but, to be perfectly honest, not the same as what we get here. We go to a hole-in-the wall place on Corbin Ave in New Britain that has amazing jerk chicken. Guess we're spoiled ;-)

We sincerely hope Shrimpy's business thrives for we would hate to see the place boarded up when we return next summer....

Wishing him much success!

Naomi :-)
