Off-leash beaches for dogs?

I am visiting Ptown this weekend with my dog. Are there any off-leash beaches and/or off-leash walking/hiking trails fairly close to town? I know some beaches are off-leash during the off season, but what about at this time of year?

Not that I know of ... but I hope somebody has different information to prove me wrong. There's the dog park which is nice, but I know that's not what you had in mind. .

Also, I was very disappointed that NONE of the National Seashore walking/hiking trails allow dogs, even ON-LEASH. Not too far from the parking lot for the Beach Forest trail, there is a dirt "fire road". Dogs are allowed there ... not sure about the leash requirement.

I see people walking with their dogs off the leashes and swimming on the beach all along the bay

The Pilgrim Bark Park site has a great summary of what you need to know to enjoy Provincetown with your dog.

Remember this place was named to most dog friendly destination the country not so long ago.

I can't wait to bring my new puppy down to enjoy it.

Sometimes there are restrictions on the beaches (especially National Seashore) when the plovers are nesting, but I don't keep up with their habits.
