Where are you staying? Yes, you can get a whale watching trip from Plymouth. Check out this website

www.captjohn.com

I know there are a few out of Boston I'm just not sure of their names. I'm sure you can google whale watching Boston for a list of companies.

A word of caution before going out. Make sure the weather is nice otherwise it's won't be a pleasurable experience. If it's very windy it will be rough and you could get seasick. I went on a boat from Capt John's. About 75% of the boat was sick throwing up. Not fun. You could always ask about sea conditions before buying your ticket.

The whale-watching boats all head for an offshore shoal called Stellwagen Bank. Plymouth is much closer to Stellwagen than Boston, so it is a better choice if you want to spend more of your excursion watching whales and less time traveling to and from the whales. Whale-watching trips from Plymouth tend to take 3-4 hours. I think that they are longer from Boston.

If you have a tendency to motion sickness, you will want to avoid windy days. However, I have gone whale watching on a moderately windy day and had no problem, and I wasn't aware of problems among other passengers, though I can't say I was paying attention to them. Whatever the weather, it will be much cooler out on the ocean (maybe 16 degrees C this time year), and even if there is little wind, the whale-watching boat will move fast enough to create a stiff breeze with some spray on board, so I recommend a rain jacket both as protection against the spray and as a windbreaker.

By the way, if you will be traveling to Cape Cod, then you should consider taking a whale-watching excursion from Provincetown instead of from Plymouth. Provincetown is much closer to Stellwagen Bank than Plymouth, and I think whale-watching trips from Provincetown may be less than 3 hours.

Just returned from New England trip. Captain John boats were fantastic. The staff were really helpful and careful to make the trip special. Unforgettable!
