Where to stay on the cape

Hi - I am looking for an area and place to stay on the cape. We would like to have some quaint shops and restaurants to go to, whale watching, just a fun relaxing 4 days. Not quite the hustle bustle tourist trap, and not total seclusion. We are not big on just sitting on the beach all day in the sun either, but would like it close enough to walk to. Maybe a nice B & B or INN? With a spa? Any suggestions?

There are three distinct areas on the Cape, the more secluded Outer Cape, the area with more activities, shops, restaurants which is Mid Cape and the charming old New England Upper Cape with it's year 'round establishment and attractions. You can either try to learn about the complexion of each to see what suits you best or just allow the ideal accommodations (both in charm and expense) be the decision maker since anywhere you select will deliver a great holiday.

Also, each town is a contrast to itself. When you asked for things to do (not total seclusion) but to be away from the tourist area I was reminded of all the tacky shops and motels in South Yarmouth that line Rt 28 but then, when you drive a mile south to Nantucket Sound you have lovely resort, B&B, motel and time share properties located a beautiful stretch of beach.

If you want to try to understand which town might suit your interests best then start with the Top Questions, noodle around on this forum or you can look at the best Cape guide for newbies and that is the Explorer Series, Cape Cod, Martha's Vineyard & Nantucket by Kim Grant, 9th edition but any edition will give you a feel for each town. Then come back here with more specific question when you have them. Just remember, whatever you choose, you will be on Cape Cod and that's a great thing.

Top Questions is not a separate forum. Look at the top right column of this page (tripadvisor.com/ShowForum-g185492-i369-Cape_…) and you will see a section called "Top Questions"
