You might try looking at the local buses available on the Cape. One is called The Flex. It also has some connections to other bus lines that go outside the Cape.

To see the bus connections:

There is also a ferry that goes from Provincetown to Boston if you can get your way down to Provincetown.

You might consider taking the bus to Providence RI and then the Amtrak train from Providence to NY. wickedlocal.com/harwich/homepage/x1059369812

http://www.Amtrak.com

Or take the Plymouth and Brockton bus from the Cape to Boston

http://www.p-b.com and then the train to NY.

I have not actually taken the train to NY but people who have enjoyed the hassle-free transportation.

Just a cautionary note: My 16-year-old son has been doing a lot of traveling on Amtrak recently, and you can usually count on extensive delays. Last weekend, one train didn't leave till two hours after its scheduled departure, and the other was half an hour late. This can be a problem if, like him, you need to make a connection to a bus or other transportation when you get to your destination.

Aycos, we often shop at the CVS in Post Office Square. It's a very nice store, and it's close to the business center of Harwich Port. You will be able to walk to the beach, stores, and restaurants. Good luck, and have fun!

Hyannis to New York City www.peterpanbus.com. Excellent service, cheaper and far more reliable than Amtrak. If you buy your ticket two weeks ahead for travel on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, round trip fare is about $65. Arrives at 42nd St and 8th Ave New York. Cheaper than gas and tolls. You can't buy the two-week advance fare online, you have to go to a ticket counter at a terminal. One week advance purchase available for a little more.

Never mind Amtrak. It's expensive and you'll be late; very late.

There is a new bus service starting in April that will go between Harwich and the Amtrak Station in Providence - as well as TF Green. Information can be found at www.GoCapex.com

I know students are always looking for the least expensive mode of transportation so here goes

You can take the Flex Bus ($2.00??)along Rt 28 to Hyannis to the bus terminal

Then take the P&B bus to Boston (not sure cost)

Also

to head to NY City from Boston you can take the Lucky Star or similar bus from South Station into Chinatown/Canal Street in New York City $30.00 Round trip or $15.00 one way

Boston is a day trip away - drive time is not the same as the bus but I assume you could get to Boston in three hours if your connections are good.

New York from Boston by bus is 4 hours (I think)

Enjoy your side trips and I hope you enjoy your summer here
