Taking a train from Boston to Gloucester for day trip

Can you advise location in Gloucester for train station . We are interested in the harbour and waterfront downtown. How far is the walk?

There are two train stations in Gloucester, you really should look at a map to see how far they are from where you want to go. Much easier than trying to describe it!

You want the Gloucester stop, NOT West Gloucester. It's about a 10-12 minute or so walk to the harbor area, depending on how quick you are.

Depending on the day you go, there is a trolley which picks up at Gloucester station on the weekends. I saw an ad for it on subway.

SummerOfGeorge, that's great informaton about the trolley! It will get folks to places like Rocky Neck that are hard to visit without a car. $3 for the day is a bargain, too. Thanks for posting.

AustraliaSammy, you will be fine walking from the train depot to the waterfront. The trip back to the station is uphill, so you may want to allow a little extra time.

Did you consider going to Rockport or Newburyport? We visited all three recently and Gloucester was our least favorite.

The walk is about 15 minutes from the train station to the harbor.
