family dining

Midwestern family of six - parents plus four twenty somethings - coming to SS for wedding. Will be staying @ downtown Marriott. Looking for dining experiences with local flavor - no chains. We enjoy good Italian and hope to experience some local seafood. Do not mind spending some money but not looking for upscale experience. Any ideas. not sure if we will have transportation so looking for something close at hand.

While we are at it - are there any local attractions that we should consider. Enjoy gardens so if there are any in the area that we might enjoy, please let me know.

Where do you mean by "the shore"? For me, it means the ocean, which is close to 3 hours away from Silver Spring, 6 hours of driving for lunch seems a bit much! :)

You can drive to the Annapolis area and see a bit of Chesepeake Bay in that area. That's only 45 minutes away from Silver Spring.

Not really "off the beaten path", but Cantlers is a good choice for crabs in that area. Chneck out the Annapolis forum for other ideas.

the last time we were in the area we drove over the chesapeake bay bridge and went to the shore and drove around looking at one or two lighthouses. your right, may be too much this go around. have been to annapolis and could certainly go back there for premium crab cakes at one of the spots that overlooks the harbor there. thanks. again.
