Wondering about this hotel. Reviews seem ok, maybe mixed. If nothing else, how about the location as far as neighborhood? Also, how long is the ride from Shady Grove to Union Station by metro? Thanks
Speaking only to the location and assuming D.C. is what you want to see, this isn't a great choice. The ride from Shady Grove is 42 minutes once you get on the train--then you have the trip to the station, waiting time on the platform and possible service delays to contend with--you can easily figure on over an hour each way door-to-door.
If budget is the only factor driving your decision to stay this far, consider that the Metro ride could easily be $10 per person round-trip. When you factor in the potential cost of transit, it may actually be more expensive to stay here--or you'll find it's worth a little extra to pay to stay closer.
Should you decide to stay at Chase, you will find the immediate vicinity to be safe, albeit somewhat sterile as the hotel primarily services the nearby corporate office parks. There is a fairly new mixed-use development (King Farm) nearby with some nice restaurants. And I can say the location would actually be a good base for your trip if your itinerary includes outlying historical areas such as Gettysburg or Harpers Ferry in addition to DC.
Providing additional info (feel free to PM) will get you more focused information, specifically:
1) # in your traveling party, ages of any children
2) How are you getting to the area? Driving/flying/??? If not driving your own car, will you have a rental?
3) Any additional activities planned beyond the usual DC tourist stuff?
4) Dates of travel & budgetEdited: 6:59 am, March 19, 2012
