Is there enough to do in Chestertown, MD for a weekend vacation?
I think it would make a very nice weekend getaway.
If you are into kayaking I think that would be all the activity you'd need. Cassinelli Winery is close by...their wines aren't going to make you forget about Bordeaux but the people were very friendly.
Thank you so much. We're not into kayaking or any water sports, but the winery sounds good. We like hiking (not camping), art, theater, antiques, BYOB restaurants, history. Any additional recommendations?
Again, deep thanks.
Not sure if you visited this site yet, but it is the visitor information place for Chestertown. They do have art galleries, and you can certainly rent some bikes and take a ride. Definitely make a trip to Rock Hall where you can dine waterfront at several different restaurants. www.rockhallmd.comEdited: 4:50 pm, August 17, 2012
Sounds good. Thank you. I will check out RockHall. I did go to the Chestertown site and wasn't terrifically impressed. Your comments are helpful.
If you aren't able to find many interesting things for you then maybe your instinct in asking the question was right and there isn't enough for you. Not being critical, just don't know you.
Been thinking the same thing!
It really depends on what you want to do. There is almost always wonderful programming at Washington College, something fantastic at the Garfield Center, wonderful biking and walking and great restaurants. Seasonally, you can enjoy the river or sporting like shooting and hunting. You will find friendly people, a beautiful, historic community and a relaxed pace.
There is a new river cruise option - the Chester River Packet boat. They do brunch on Sundays and sunset cruises on Thursday, Fridays and Saturdays. We did the brunch cruise this past Sunday and had a great time. Food is excellent and you spend a nice, leisurely afternoon cruising on the Chester River. Their website is www.chesterriverpacketco.com. If the weather is nice, it would be a great option.
Chestertown's a great place for cycling (gentle, flat roads, pretty vistas). Love the shopping scene, especially on Saturdays with the market open from 8 a.m. - noon. The packet boat is so much fun. Rock Hall has a small beach for swimming in the bay.
