Visiting Bethesda Naval Hospital and DC

A friend of my daughter's has been brought back to Bethesda from Iraq and we want to combine a visit with him and some touring of Washington DC on Friday-Sunday in mid March. We would probably stay near the hospital so we could make several short visits over the weekend. What are the public transit options for getting into DC (cost, convenience, time)? Thanks!

Metrorail is your best option. From Grosvenor to Smithsonian station (a common tourist destination in town) is 30 minutes, plus waiting time. Cost $3.00 in rush hour, $2.35 in non-rush hour. Parking at Grosvenor is $4.00 during the week, free on weekends. (Medical Center station is closer to the hospital, but there is no Metrorail parking available.)

If you need a place to stay, the Bethesda Marriott is nice, typically has good weekend rates and is close to the hospital.

We have an injured soldier at the Naval Hospital too. My sister found a great air/hotel rate using hyatt.com. She is flying from Las Vegas Nevada the first week in April. For 2 people for 6 nights she got a great rate of $600/person.
