Does anyone know where to day park a 29' motorhome close to the Old Port.
I've been holding off responding to your original post to see if anyone else could come up with a response for you....
As the name suggests, the "Old Port" is one of the oldest sections of the City -- some of its most popular streets are the narrow driving lanes - tight sidewalks - little to no curb space typical of old New England downtowns....
About the only thing I can suggest, and I really don't like it much, is to part your RV somewhere further out of town (one of several park-and-ride lots, a mall parking area, etc.) and ride a Metro bus to the Old Port area. No, it's not as easy or convenient as parking adjacent to the Old Port shops and restaurants, but to the best of my knowledge, you're not going to find parking for a rig that size anywhere in the immediate vicinity of the Old Port area.
If someone else knows of a place, I hope they post it, because I'd like to know about it for future reference....
Don't let this deter you from visiting the Old Port -- it's a great part of Portland,
Thank you..I have also contacted the tourism office so will see what they say...thought we may be able to park in their parking area that is if they have one!!??..but thanks for your time and help!!
I think any parking for the tourism office is street parking on Commercial Street. There is an open air surface parking lot right by there though. Not sure if RV parking is allowed or not or how much they may charge for a vehicle that large.
The closest place I can think of is the Park and Ride lot on Marginal Way - it is right at the I-295 Franklin St. interchange. I see RVs parked there frequently, there is a Metro bus stop and it is conveniently right off the highway (and free).
Here is a link to parking lots/garages in Portland:
A couple of larger lots that I can think of that might allow you to park there (both have fees) are the lot near City Hall/Merrill Auditorium on Congress Street and the lot at DiMillo's restaurant. However, there may not be enough overhead clearance at the entrance to DiMillo's lot.
Thanks Guys I will check them out on google earth.
