wedding at the inn

planning on staying for a week in late august and hoping to rent a cottage. any suggestions before i start looking? are the insects bad that time of year? are there enough things to do to keep you busy for a week? shopping & grocery stores? would like to top the week of with a party on the beach and lobster bake - are there people of the island that do that for you?

Many cottages in Maine rent Saturday afternoon-Saturday morning. Which makes it difficult to coordinate a weekly rental if the wedding is to take place on Saturday evening/night.

Last year I attended a wedding on a small island in Casco Bay, and the wedding was scheduled for a Tuesday for that very purpose--so guests who wanted to rent a cottage for a week could work it around the wedding. It was incredibly fun, like a big weeklong house party! The bride and groom helped them find cottages to rent on the small island.

About half of the guests stayed on the mainland for fewer days and came over via boat daily for the actual wedding-related festivities.

Any caterer in the greater Portland area will be glad to help you stage a lobster bake. Google caterer + portland + maine

I attended a lobster bake catered by http://www.churchillcaterers.com/ which turned out nice.

There are enough things in the greater Portland area to keep you busy for a week. The big plus with Peaks is that it's just a 15-minute boat ride to Portland, so if folks get antsy, they can spend a day on the mainland.
