Shells or Sea Glass on beaches - or nothing but sand?

Hi we are coming in June and we LOVE to walk on the beach - staying at the Norseman. Is this a good area to look for shells? or is it beach glass? Or nothing but sand? Anyone know??? Thanks!

I think you'd be lucky to find any "keepers" on a beach in Oqunquit, if for no other reason that hundreds of other people would have already come through before you and picked it up. Not to worry, it's a very pretty beach and you should enjoy it, treasures or not.

You should, however, find lots of lovely sea glass (jewelry especially) in local gift shops. If you like sea glass jewelry, venture up to Kennebunkport and the Abacus gift shop. They tend to have lovely selection of handmade sea glass jewelry.

Just FYI, there is less and less sea glass bieng found these days as laws are stiff against dropping trash overboard. Most of the good finds come from the olden days where folks on boats just dumped their trash (including glass) into the water.

Lots of Maine beaches (not so much on Oqunquit) yield gorgeous rocks that are worn smooth by the action of the water. Though you aren't supposed to pick them up and take them home, I defy you to find a Maine home that doesn't have one of those gorgeous rocks sitting on a coffee table, in a bookcase, on window sill, serving as a door stop, etc.
