Bar Harbor to Boothbay - best route, sights, lunch spot?

We would like to hit Boothbay Harbor on our way back to Boston from Bar Harbor this weekend. Is Rt 1 the best route? Also, any sights we should be sure to take in along the way? Finally, we are looking for a good, casual place for lunch while there and would welcome a recommendation...sandwiches/ salads would be great. Thank you!

In general, Rt 3 to Ellsworth, Rt 1 to Edgecomb and Rt 27 to Boothbay Harbor will be your best route.... probably also the busiest.... South of Camden and before you get into Rockland, you can save some time and distance by taking Rt 90 south.... reconnects with US Rt 1 south of Rockland (good option unless you want to go into Rockland itself). Further south, you could get off Rt 1 in Damariscotta and take River Rd (rural country driving, narrower travel lanes and shoulders than Rt 1, but also probably less traffic)...

Things to be sure to see along the way -- Penobscot Narrows Bridge Observatory (observation deck built into one of the piers of a major suspension bridge - enclosed observation deck is over 400-feet above the river, so great view of the surrounding area); Fort Knox State Park (next door to the Observatory) is a great stop for history buffs; Mt Battie Auto Road in Camden Hills State Park on Rt 1 just north of downtown Camden; Camden harbor waterfront (turn left down the hill where Rt 1 swings right in downtown Camden); Rockland breakwater and lighthouse; world-reknowned Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland (great stop for Wyeth fans); Owl's Head Transportation Museum in Owl's Head just south of Rockland -- everything from bicycles to airplanes; Maine State Prison Store on Main Street in Thomaston (fantastic woodworking and other projects all done by inmates -- they can even arrange to ship your purchases home for you).

Possible lunch stops (depending on where you area at lunchtime) could include Bell-the-Cat just off Rt 1 in Belfast; Boynton-McKay in downtown Camden (emphasis on food, not atmosphere); The Brown Bag on Rt 1 just as you come into downtown Rockland (great chowders and sandwiches on their own bakery bread). Believe all of the attractions and restaurants have their own websites where you can get more info....
