The only missing component to our trip was visiting a local beach, even if just for a few hours to have the kids go in the ocean and run around. Suggestions please. Thanks!" Boothbay Harbor has several lovely town public beaches at Barrett's Park that no respondent mentioned. You can view photos of families enjoying these beaches in the warm August 2009 summer at http://www.barrettspark.com/ There are a few subdivision beaches and private beaches nearby mentioned by respondents. Barrett’s Park is for everyone.
Driving Route 1 can "consume" too much of a short vacation making local planning a wise decision. There are several fine “Maine” beaches south of Portland but commuting from Boothbay Harbor would be wasteful of your limited vacation time.
