Recs for group of 7 women

A group of 7 of us (40-somethings) are renting a house on the river in Prospect this weekend (Fri-Mon). We get together every summer, but this year we are also celebrating a 50th bday for one of us. Sat we want to go out shopping, have lunch, dinner, check out some pubs, maybe listen to some music, etc I've heard of the Bardstown Rd area, & I've been searching on these forums. Since we will have to drive from Prospect, where would be the best, most central place to park? Obviously, one of us will need to be the DD :)

If you could only choose one, would you spend your evening doing the Bardstown Rd pub scene, or go to Fourth Street Live? We're not looking for crazy bars or to be surrounded by college kids, but we do like outdoor patios, maybe some music. We probably also need a reservation somewhere for Sat night, but I'm confused! I have no idea what to reserve, or even if we've waited too late.

One of my friends heard about Proof on Main? Would that be a good option for us? Is it stuffy? Is it too late for a rsv for Sat?

Any input would be much appreciated! Thanks!

Bev

You'll hate Fourth Street Live. Avoid. If you end up there, make your way over to the Old Seelbach Bar on the ground floor of the Seelbach Hotel.

Captian's Quarters is close to you. Great deck. Live music on the outdoor patio on most weekends. I'd call ahead and make a reservation just to be safe. http://www.cqriverside.com/

Take a look at Decca. Three levels. I'd request upstairs dining on the covered deck. The ground level outdoor patio has live music on certain nights. The downstairs lounge for after dinner cocktails is very cool. They have Absinthe. You'll need reservations.

Additional suggestions.......

Seviche - Outdoor tables available. (Bardstown Rd.)

http://www.sevicherestaurant.com/

Ramsi's Cafe on the World. There's an outdoor courtyard. (Bardstown Rd)

Varanese (Lower Frankfort Ave) -- Silver Dollar Saloon is closeby for after dinner drinks.

Volare (Frankfort Ave) --- Irish Rover pub is across the street for after dinner drinks.

If you just want to head to dive bar, try Dark Star, Gerstles, Frankfort Ave. Beer Depot.

Stevie Ray's downtown has live blues.

Thanks so much! Your info on the various posts has been such a big help! I know we'll go to Captain's Quarters, just prob Sun rather than Sat. Decca's sounds like a good possibility - I'll check that out.

If you have time, what's your opinion of Proof on Main, or should we avoid the downtown area all together?

Seagrover, if you've got time I have one more question. If we did the modified Bambi Walk that you've mentioned on here, starting at Hideaway & ending up at Outlook or Molly Malone's, is there a restaurant somewhere in that specific area that works well for our group? I know you sent me some great recs with patio dining, etc., but I can't figure out if they're along that route, or if we would need to Bambi Walk for awhile, get our car & drive to restaurant, & then go back, park, & resume the B.W.

BTW, one of our group is on antibiotics & cannot drink any alcohol, so we definitely have our DD :) Thanks again for all your help!

Hey Bev,

I haven't forgotten about you. I'll be back this afternoon with ideas. Have to run an errand before the place closes.

p.s. I went to Open Table & they had a 6:45 rsv time at Seviche. I love their menu & they have patio dining, so I went ahead & snagged that. I can always change it if you think there's something that would suit us better! Thanks - no hurry!

Seviche would be a very good choice for your group. Here's a pic of the outside patio. You could always request a table that situated on the end of the patio closer to Bardstown Road if you want to watch the people & cars go by. Those would be the tables in the foreground of this image. members.virtualtourist.com/m/p/m/2129da/

Seviche is about a block north of the Hideaway Saloon. My suggestion would be to have your dinner at Seviche first and then backtrack a block to The Hideaway to begin your Bambi Walk.

You could leave your car parked near Seviche.....make the couple mile Bambi walk down to Outlook or Molly Malones.....then have the bar call you a cab to bring you back to your car for the ride home.

Yellow Cab is: 502-636-5511 (may want to program it into your phone)

Just an fyi - you guys may want to pace yourselves a little bit on the Bambi Walk. If you try to have a drink in every bar/pub/restaurant/cafe along the two mile route between Hideaway and The Outlook Inn, you'll never make it to the end.

Some places I'd recommend you check out (all are directly on your path as you walk down Bardstown Rd/Baxter Ave)......

The Hideway - 1607 Bardstown Road. You may have a hard time locating the door. The sign is tucked away. If you are facing Leatherheads, look directly to the right. Live music on most nights. You may not notice it, but there's a second level with pool tables. Ask the bartender to point out the door to the second floor. …metromix.com/music/…2714470

Cumberland Brews - 1576 Bardstown Road They brew their own beer. The food is good. The beers are potent! …tqn.com/d/…CumberlandBrews.jpg

The Highland Tap Room - 1279 Bardstown Road. Outdoor patio, cheap drinks & karaoke.

…tqn.com/d/…TheHighlandsTaproom.jpg

The Back Door -1250 Bardstown Road #7 This is the one you'll have trouble finding. It's behind Mid-City Mall. Across the street from The Highland Tap Room. Ask a local to point you toward it.

…tqn.com/d/…TheBackDoor.jpg

Highland Liquors - 1117 Bardstown Rd. Sounds strange, but this liquor store has a great patio & outdoor bar -- next to Speedway gas station.

https:/…4cfaf674ee9cb60c009b8dad

Holy Grale - 1034 Bardstown Rd. They take their beer VERY seriously. You won't find Coors or Bud. If anyone has room, get an order of the Fritjes.

http://holygralelouisville.com/

Wick's Pizza Pub - 975 Baxter Avenue. Lively crowd on the bar side. Live music on some nights. Pool tables etc. in the back. tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g39604-d39…

O'Shea's - 956 Baxter Ave. You'll see the great side patio when you enter, but there's a whole area in the back behind that.

urbanspoon.com/rph/51/551065/louisville-o-sh…

Flanagan's Ale House - 934 Baxter Ave.Also has a large outdoor patio in the back. urbanspoon.com/rph/51/550550/louisville-flan…

Molly Malones - 933 Baxter Avenue You'll see the large outdoor seating area in the front of the building when you walk up. You can't miss it.

The Outlook Inn - 916 Baxter Avenue It's a dive, but it's our dive. They are famous for their Bloody Mary's. http://www.martypearl.com/Portfolio/Velocity-Magazine/Friday-Night-on-Baxter-Avenue/14114837_BWnqcQ/1040396292_b3jAr#!i=1040396292&k=b3jAr&lb=1&s=A

If your group still has any energy, you might want to end your night at The Monkey Wrench (1025 Barret Avenue on the corner of Barrett Ave. & Winter Ave.). Great roof deck with outside bar. Live music inside on the ground floor. It's not directly on your Bambi Walk path, but only a few blocks away. Get a cab from The Outlook. It's not a long walk, but I'd hate to hear about seven cocktailed ladies found wandering around Germantown.

Late night food. Papalinos Pizza across the street from Flanagans. Has HUGE pizza by the slice for $3.50. They are open until 2am on Saturday.

Seagrover is such a good source. There aren't a lot of things that we Louisville contributors disagree on. Totally agree about 4th St live. Here's something new to the city which you may enjoy. I just saw this in Savannah Georgia and was ROTF...

We will pace ourselves for sure, but I would bet money that we fizzle out WAY before any of these places even think about closing :) The lure of the pj's...

Great info!! Thanks!

p.s. @ Linda, just saw your post. That is hilarious! I think we'll leave that one to the young-uns. I don't want to have to work that hard when I drink ;)
