University of Louisville Football Weekend

Visiting Louisville in Oct with a few college buddies for a weekend of college football and fun.

What area is the best place to stay for nightlife (food, bars, proximity to casinos in Indiana, etc.)?

Also, I don't know much about the University of Louisville campus, but is it worth staying close to that area?

At the end of the day, we are more concerned with the best area to stay as opposed to being close to the football stadium.

Thanks in advance for any insights.

Howdy Chad! I am visiting Chicago the first weekend in November, lol.

First, Louisville is easy to navigate. The Uof L campus and stadium are near I-65. The hotels around there are servicing the airport, mainly and aren't close to entertainment or restaurants. The best bars and restaurants, IMO, are on Bardstown Road. However, no hotels there! It's a 5 min taxi or car ride from downtown, and you can park and walk about everywhere. I think you will be happiest if you stay downtown. I would suggest the Galt House, The Hyatt or Marriott. If you want to save a few bucks, the Hampton Inn on Jefferson St is a good bargain, basic hotel. We have an entertainment complex known as 4th Street Live which many like. I am not crazy about it, cause there's little 'live" music. If you tell me what type of nightlife you like, that would help. As far as Caesar's Casino in Indiana, that's a bit of a drive! You'll go over the bridge on I-64, get off at the first (New Albany) exit and from there it's about a 20 minute drive to 'the boat".

Good place for dinner downtown with friends is melillo's on Market Street. Lots of yummy authentic Italian ; place run by a big family. Big portions, lots of fun, not too expensive.
