Holiday World, Southern Indiana late August.

Hi,

Looking for some advice... we have 2 kids under 10 and are thinking of visiting Holiday World and Splashin Safari mid to late August. Just wondering if this is a good time (crowded?). Probably on a Thursday thru Saturday.

Also, has anyone ever stayed in the cabins at Lincoln State Park nearby? Or Abe Martin Lodge?

Any advice would be appreciated!

hello,

holiday world will not be as crowded on thursday.

the weekends are to be avoided,,,at least for me.

very nice and clean,,,good fun for all.

free soft drinks for kids.

lincoln sp cabins are ok. last time i stayed you had to provide your linens. pretty barebones setup,,,but nice and quiet,,,,nice hiking and they have a beach for swimming.

abe martin lodge is in brown county SP. close to a 2 hour drive from HW. brown county indiana's most visited park,,,nice.

you may want to try Spring Mill SP,,,it is closer and also very nice.

Not sure when you are planning to attend in late August but make sure you check their schedule as they close during the week around the 3rd or 4th week of August due to most of their workers have went back to school (they employ mostly school age kids). It will be crowded anytime after the 4th of July. The cabins at Lincoln are nice but they book up fast. Abe Martin Lodge is about 2+ hours away--it is nice. It has a new indoor water park, I believe. However, there is NOTHING else for kids to do in Brown County.

Thanks for the heads up about closed days in August...I was considering coming mid-Aug, but I see they are closed during the week starting the 17.

I would say that Holiday World is doable on the weekends if you can stand lines. If waiting in lines is really miserable for you, then don't do it but there are a lot of things to do especially in the water park that don't have lines. We go every year on Labor Day weekend which is very busy for them. Lines are kind of long -- some longer than others -- but it's manageable.

You can stay in a cabin or 5th wheel trailer at Lake Rudolph campground next door. The campground is actually pretty fun for kids. They have a pool and playgrounds, boating, game room, and a miniature golf thing (kind of lame). If you rent a golf cart you can drive all over (it's a huge campground) which kids love.

As mentioned above, Abe Martin Lodge is nowhere near Santa Claus, IN.

The biggest downside I see is that you are talking about a LONG drive from northern IL.

We stayed at Santa's Lodge a few years ago when we took our 3yo (at the time) and really liked it there, very convenient. Holiday World is great. Brown County is far from Santa Claus, IN so it would be a "stop over" if anything. I disagree that there is "nothing else for kids in Brown County" though. My 6yo son and 6yo neice went there a couple of weeks ago with my parents and absolutely had a great time. Horseback riding, playgrounds in the park, hiking, pools, walking through Nashville getting ice cream, just to name a few.
