What to do in Evansville, IN

I thought I had posted this once already but didn't see it through past posts so will again.

What is there to do in Evansville? We have a family reunion planned for the last wknd in April. We will be staying at the Holiday Inn Convention Center. We stayed here 2 yrs ago and loved it which is why we're going back. Other than the Zoo what is there to do? We are a group of 13-14 famalies w/children ranging in age from 6 yrs old up to 15 yrs old and then of course parents, grandparents, aunts & uncles. The pool is great for a little while but I'd like to have something to do on Saturday other than hang out at the hotel and in the pool all day.

Any suggestions will be very much appreciated!

TIA!

Karen

I am going to Evansville, IN later this month (9/2006).

Has anyone heard anything about Executive Inn, Evansville, IN??? It has gotten good and mostly bad reviews on Trip Advisor. We are only staying here because that is where my dad's Army Reunion is being held.

Any information would be helpful.

This won't help Karen, whose trip has passed, but an update to this thread in case anyone else is looking for things to do in Evansville, IN:

On Sept. 29, 2006 the Children's Museum of Evansville will open in Downtown Evansville. It's all hands on, very fun, interactive designed for the tiny ones up to about 12 years of age. Six different exhibit galleries that cover a lot of interests. Also it's designed very cleverly with hidden "jokes" and decor that will make the visit fun for the adults escorting the kids. It's on the corner of 5th St & Locust in a classic Art-deco 4-story building that used to house the city's Central Library. The exhibits occupy the first two floors, plus there is Waterworks/Quack Factory area that is one of the most original features I've ever seen in a children's museum and we go to a lot of them, as I have 7 schoolage children.

A truly communty project, the renovation was completed with an eye on keeping the Art Deco look and feel, but updated for today's families. A big dinosaur is on the corner diagonal from the museum to point the way. It's called the Koch Famly Children's Museum of Evansville or CMOE for short. You'll find all the details you need at www.cmoekids.org. Have fun!

Downtown Evansville has a top-notch Children's Museum that is new. Around town there is ice skating, rock climbing, paintball, Evansville Museum of Arts and Sciences, many shows at Roberts Stadium, Nagasaki Inn Japenese restaurant is fun place to eat with food cooked at your table. New Harmony is 20 miles away with historical village of an early communal society. In New Harmony-the Atheneum, the Labyrinth, Roofless Church, various other attractions. Newburgh (5 miles away)--quaint shops, riverview dining. Other cool dining: The Log Inn, 10 miles north is a must..family style dining in the oldest restaurant in Indiana. Get there early. They open at 4 pm, closed on Sunday and Monday.

Evansville is boring if you live here only b/c you have probably already done everything but for visitors, most of the hotels are nice with excellent breakfast and pools. Like the things mentioned in previous posts including, the new childrens museum, which I rate a 10!! Also there is Chuck E. Cheese, which is always a hit for the kids and the mall is cross the street! Holiday World isn't too far either if you are looking for a theme park this one has one of the best water parks ever. Plus the park is exceptionally clean. It is located in Santa Claus, IN which is probably about 45 min to an hour from Evansville. Walters Indoor/Outdoor putt-putt is awesome, me and my husband go there alot. They have an arcade where you can win tickets, they have pool tables, indoor and outdoor putt-putt, they have lazer tag that is cool and a little pizza place there too!! The mall features a Build-A-Bear workshop which is alot of fun. Also has a JCPenny, Lazarus, Old Navy, Hollister, Abercrombie, American Eagle, Macys, Rogers, Kays and much much more. If you are comming without the kids, the casino is a sure way to gamble till your hearts content. Also located across from the river boat is Fast Eddy's Bar, which is a huge hit. They have the best kaboobs!! Plus if you can catch Gonzo's Toy Box (a band) playing then you are promised a good time! They also have Thong Thursdays if you want to let your wild side out..haha There is also the musem located on the river which is fun to walk along or have a picnic. Well that is it for now...

You could go to Burdette Park on the West Side. It's a water park, and there will be signs off the Lloyd Expressway (Ind. 62) you could also go to the Willard Library on First Ave, right off the Lloyd. if you go in October, you can schedule a ghost tour because the library i supposedly haunted. Wesselman Woods Nature Preserve, i belive on Green River Road, would be good for kids too. Kids will enjoy the hands-on exibits, plus walking around a nature preserve inside the city limits. E'ville also has an IMAX theater, which would be good for the kids. Since i'm a teen, i should know these things. Enjoy!

There is a small zoo in Evansville also. The Meskar Park Zoo I think is the name, we are traveling there this weekend and we always find something fun to do if you just look hard enough. Enjoy your trip;)

My familly enjoyed nearby New Harmony, IN. It's about 30 minutes from Evansville and totally worth the drive. It was founded in 1814 by the Harmonie Society, a German communal society looking to put their egalitarian ideas into practice. It's beautiful, on the river, has cool modern architecture as well as 19th century log cabins. Our kids loved the tour - we loved the homes, the history lesson and the gardens.
