Parking availability at Rosemont CTA station Mid Morning

We are looking for inexpensive hotel accomodation in the Oakmont-Park Ridge Area ( for early August ) that has parking. We are willing to drive a number of miles north and/or west (e.g. 10 Miles =/-) If we can find it we would be trying to take public transportation into Chicago one or two days and would like to Drive to the Rosemont or similar CTA Station and take the train at or after 9:00 a.m.. Are there Park and Ride lots (CAT) there that would have spaces available that late in the a.m.

Thanks,

This question is really asked a lot, so if you search you can find a lot of discussion about the benefits of staying in our out of downtown. In short, yes, you can stay in Rosemount. There are a lot of hotels there, many with free or cheap parking. Both the River Road and the Cumberland blue line stops have pretty large park and ride lots. The drawback is it's a 45 minute to 1:15 commute roughly to most of the tourist sites downtown.

You can also find suburban hotels in Skokie near the yellow line or Evanston near the purple line that will have free or inexpensive parking if you don't mind the hour+ commute each way.

If you would be happy staying out at JFK to visit Manhattan then you will be O.K. staying in Rosemont to visit Chicago.

Thanks for the input.

Most of our families are in the Park Ridge/Skokie areas ( prime reason for Trip). We would like to take advantage of Chicago Attractions and would prefer an hour train ride ( between 9:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.) to and from the loop area and then exploring, rather that driving in.

If you want to be in the Park Ridge or Skokie areas, I'd google map the Skokie yellow line stop and the Cumberland blue line stop. Finding a hotel near one of those is your best bet. They both have park and ride lots. If you're planning to spend most of your time in that area with just a day trip or two into the city, that's probably better than staying in the city.

Hampton Inn in Skokie. Free parking/indoor pool/breakfast. Five minute drive to the CTA yellow line station. You'll be downtown in an hour.

Thank you all for your information. As I said, the primary purpose of the trip is to visit family in the Park Ridge and Skokie area with day trips into the City. So any hotel recommendations ) pro or con in the general areas is appreciated ( e.g. Skokie Hampton Inn ) . When I do searches on the Web, I get a lot hotels identified but I am not able to differentiate among them in regards to current conditions or commuter access area.

Responces are appreciated.

Is Best Western in Morton Grove within reasonable walking distance to train station and a reasonable place to stay. ( Could not find an active Morton forum). Any recommendation on the Best Western Hotel?

Only issue with metra is it runs in a fixed schedule. On weekends there are usually just a few trains. So check the schedule Dave linked to make sure it will be convenient for when you want to go downtown and back.

Cta, like the blue line, runs every 5 to 20 minutes so allows for more flexibility.

Thanks wes- I see what you mean about the schedule, particularly on Weekend/Sunday afternoons. Appears it would be a safer bet to use a Cta station for coming and going from the Area ( will take this into consideration with Hotel Selections).

Thanks again
