Tasty homemade white bread rolls (called pao) is available all over in Mozambique. However, there are no shops outside Maputo like the shops you have in South Africa. Food variety is severely limited.

Potatoes and tomatoes are not grown, the same goes for pears, litchies, apples, oranges etc. I have been in Mozambique ten times, never seen these being sold.

You will however, find lots of tasty bananas, pineapples, coconuts. These you should not bring from South Africa. But bring everything else. Especially medicine. Pharmacies are very scarce to nonexistent.

The best advice would be to mail Barra lodge's owner or manager and ask exactly what is available and what is not.

There are more than 20 other lodges in the same fasinity than Barra lodge where you can eat every day. Bar Balaza is 5minutes drive from Barra Lodge on your way from the airport, and they have all kinds of fresh food and fruit, like tomatoes, lettuce, bananas. You can also buy fresh fish or prawns or calamari from the locals on the beach every day. Just be careful with their scales, but all the lodges will be more than helpful if you want to weigh your fish in their kitchens. Barra has cot almost all the neccesaties in the area.- hire a quad and explore!!!!
