Chicago Thanksgiving Dinner

We will be in Chicago on Thanksgiving Day for the parade. Traveling with our two young kids. Want to do something more casual with a Chicago flair as opposed to a more formal dinner. Even a pizza or burger joint would work. Any suggestions? We are staying at the Palmer House. Thanks!

If you do a search for pizza on this forum - you'll find numerous posts on the subject.

For a good burger:

Since, it's a holiday, call ahead of time to be sure they're open.

The Berghoff Restaurant just reopened for dinner as 17 West at the Berghoff. It is in one of the oldest buildings in Chicago and was a real part of Chicago history. It's an easy walk from the Palmer House. Call or e-mail them at 17west chicago.com to see if they are open Thanksgiving and if they still have a children's menu.

Giordano's Pizza might be a good choice - everything from deep dish pizza to spaghetti and meatballs, and salads. There's a location very near Michigan Avenue - at the corner of Rush St. and Superior St. (a block away fron Chicago/Michigan). And over at Ontario St. and Clark St. there's Portillo's - Chicago Hot Dogs and Italian beef sandwiches - it's a favorite of many. The largest McDonalds in the world - or so it seems - is just across the street.
