Urgent help!!!

A friend and I are meeting up in Chicago this upcoming weekend of Aug 4th - Aug 6th. However, we don't have a hotel yet and everything downtown is sold out. We'd prefer to stay downtown. Does anyone have suggestions?

Since the downtown area is sold out - unless you want to pay for a very expensive room, you're going to have to look at the suburbs or stay near O'Hare or Midway.

This is why downtown is sold out - http://www.lollapalooza.com/default.asp?fd=1

To the north of Chicago, look at Evanston or Skokie. Towards O'hare, look at Rosemont or Des Plaines. Hotwire is showing properties near O'hare for under $100

Near Midway - http://www.midwayhotelcenter.com/

You can get to/from these areas and downtown via CTA trainand/or bus. Visit www.transitchicago.com for details.

Option 1:

Westin River North for 8/4 - go to westin.com to search and there should be a river view room available for $339 (at least there is as of 7am this morning)

Marriott Mag Mile for 8/5 on marriott.com - $309.

Option 2:

Radisson Michigan Ave on 877chicago.com for 8/4 (1 queen bed is the only thing available) - between $259-289 (diff. room variations)

Marriott Mag Mile for 8/5 on marriott.com - $309.

Both of the hotels in both options are within reasonable walking distance of one another.

Also:

See if the Buckingham Athletic Club in the South Loop has any rooms available. The number from the website (http://bac-chicago.com) is 312-663-8910.

Here are some alternatives near public transport...

Lincolnshire - This is a very high class area that is starting to pop. There is a Springhill suites that is located within walking distance of the half day metra stop. The nice thing about this location is that there are plenty of Chicagoland's best restruants near by. Walker Brothers, the best place for breakfast in Chicago, is just steps from the hotel. You are also close to places like Stoney River, Bob Chins and Pete Millers.

Rosemont. While they do have higher hotel taxes, I don't believe they are as bad as the city. There is a holiday inn express, holiday inn and Sheraton Suites by the airport. There is a Doubletree suites and Embassy that I believe fall with Rosemont's boundaries. All are close to the blue line or Metra. There is a Metra line that runs behind the holiday inn and Sheaton. This area is still expensive, and there are a few resturants in the area, but not much offering.

Deerfield - There are a bunch of hotels on Lake Cook Road that are near the Metra stop. This is one of the most expensive neighborhoods in Chicago so you can feel a bit more safe staying there. I believe there is a Courtyard right across the street from Metra stop. Many top notch resturants are a short cab ride away: Stoney River (one of the best steak places in Chicagoland), PF Changs, Boston Blackies, Bennigans, Ruth's Chris to name a few.

Arlington Heights - There is a Sheraton located next to the Horsetrack (think better than Churchill downs) there. This hotel is located a short ride to Schaumburg by Taxi where there is plenty of shopping and dinning. If you are traveling with Kids, this place will soon have one of the biggest indoor water parks in Chicago. Also, a great chicago activity that doesn't get mentioned much is a day at Arlington Park. It is one of the nices horse tracks in the country! Also, once Metra stop down is downtown Arlington Heights. It has many eclectic botique restruants. Fuego, Reginas, Peggy Kianne's and Fanchescas are just a few of the good ones to name.

Aurora - The end of the metra line here is near an old round house, which is now the home of Walter Payton's roundhouse microbrewery. It is actually a nice dinner for a microbrewer. The facility includes a comedy club and museum too. A short walk away is the Hollywood casino. You can try your luck with lady luck. The hotel out there is a Comfort Inn & Suites.. There isn't much out in Aurora, but I would imagine the room rate would be real cheap. I would suggest this more for the person coming to town with a car, but not wanting to drive to the city.

Thanks for all the advice. I'm going to take a look at some of these downtown hotel options now! I didn't know there was any still available.

Thanks again, and if you find anything else, feel free to contact me again. Cheers!
